Marketing & Social Media

The Marketing & Social Media department is responsible for the brand identity, coordination, support, and social media communications for Student Affairs. We take pride in our ability to serve varying department needs within Student Affairs. Our services include strategic marketing, branding, signage, print, vendor liaison, and social media.

Our staff produces creative & consistent professional solutions to fit departmental needs.

Advertise Your Event on HooView

HooView is a display system for digital advertisements across display screens on Grounds. This system promotes communication among students, faculty, administration, and the Charlottesville community. UVA entities can submit a slide to appear on HooView.

Hoos Involved

Hoos Involved is our student engagement platform where students explore opportunities to get involved and manage their student organization pages. Registered student organizations (CIOs, SSOs, etc.) can go to their page on Hoos Involved and post events to share with the University community.

Facebook Calendar

Facebook may not be a go to app for your personal use, but it’s a primary source of advertisement for events at UVA! Be sure to create an event in Facebook! This automatically adds your event to the app calendar, so it’s marketed and available to the UVA community. 

University Calendar

To submit an event to the University Calendar go to the website, choose “suggest an event” under “calendar login,” and follow the instructions.

BUSINESS CARDS 
  1. Visit the Printing and Copy Services Website and Log In to order Business Cards
  2. Choose Design Option 3 – Two-Sided Full Color Horizontal (Bleed) 
  3. Fill out form with appropriate contact and office information
    • Academic Unit or School- Student Affairs
    • Division - Student Affairs
    • Subunit title - Department name (i.e. Student Engagement, MSS, etc.)
    • To add pronouns to card include in Job Title Line 2 section
  4. Request Proof
  5. Submit Order 
  6. PCS will send you an email with the order confirmation and a proofing document for a final review

Establishing a Successful Social Media Presence

Here are some social media guidelines and best practices, which will help to establish a social media presence and build a social media following.

ELECTRONIC DISPLAYS

HooView
HooView is a display system for advertisements (flyers) across network-enabled screens on Grounds. UVA entities can submit a flyer to HooView for approval. To submit content for HooView, please visit the Hoos Involved Forms page.

FLYERING, POSTERS, & CHALKING

You can post on designated boards in Newcomb & around Grounds. ONE posting per organization, per event, per board. Flyers should not cover up other flyers (slight overlap is ok). All postings are removed on Sunday night. Chalking is allowed on designated areas around grounds. 

E-NEWSLETTERS
  • Connections
    • Connections is a weekly newsletter distributed every Wednesday and is another way for you to find out what’s going on around Grounds. Submit an item for publication using this form. 
  • QTimes Newsletter
    • A weekly newsletter hosted by the UVA LGBTQ Center to promote events. Please fill out this form by Thursdays at 11:59 PM to be included in the Monday newsletters to be sent out on Monday mornings. Please keep all submissions clear and concise. All submissions will be considered for editing and reformatting in order to meet our content and formatting guidelines. 
  • Multicultural Student Services (MSS)
    • A weekly newsletter that aims to promote inclusion and engagement for historically underrepresented students. MSS, within the Student Affairs, enhances the undergraduate experience through co-curricular programs and culturally relevant services that are meant to empower students in their identity, build community and help a diverse group of students find their individual and collective voices. Please fill out this form by Thursdays at 11:59 PM to be included in the Monday newsletters to be sent out on Monday mornings. Please keep all submissions clear and concise. All submissions will be considered for editing and reformatting in order to meet our content and formatting guidelines.
