The University Police Department works to maintain a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and other visitors and community members. UPD's main office is located at 2304 Ivy Road.

University operates a program of public safety Ambassadors in an area of the City of Charlottesville adjacent to University Grounds. These ambassadors are highly visible through use of specially marked vehicles and bright yellow logo attire.

The University maintains a map of lighted pathways across Grounds and encourages all community members to use these pathways and walk with friends late at night.
Safe Ride is an on-demand shuttle service that provides students a safe alternative to walking home alone after UTS bus service has ended for the evening. Rides may be requested by calling (434) 242-1122 or via Transloc OnDemand mobile app. A wheelchair accessible Safe Ride van may also be requested.
