Dear fellow students and friends,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the last few weeks of the spring semester.

As we enter finals season, your peers on the Honor Committee would like to wish you the best of luck on your upcoming exams, papers, and projects. We understand that this time of the year can be overwhelming and stressful, and hope that you are able to find rest and take breaks from studying.

While it may seem that fun and finals do not belong in the same sentence, we have organized a few opportunities for you to put down your books and de-stress. Honor has set up well-being tables at libraries, a Morven Farms fresh produce table, and a variety of one-day group fitness passes at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. You can also pick up free blue books and a loaner calculator in Newcomb. If you have a free fifteen minutes on Monday, May 6, we encourage you to join us in giving back to our community by writing gratitude cards at Madison House. Finally, we’ve also funded a Grit Coffee tab on all exam days and a Bodo’s Bagels tab at their Corner locations on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 – please enjoy and have a treat on us!

In addition to Honor’s specific initiatives, we would like to promote the Writing Center’s online and in-person consultations from May 1 until May 10. We’ve also partnered with Student Health and Wellness (SHW). They offer free C’ville Coffee in their building every Wednesday morning starting at 9:00 a.m. For finals, they’re also offering snacks – stop by SHW and grab a coffee and snacks today! Please also take advantage of the Reflection Rooms at SHW for relaxing, power napping, meditation, prayer, and reflection. These quiet spaces feature cozy seating and low lighting to provide a tranquil environment for unwinding and escaping the busy atmosphere of Grounds. SHW will also be outfitted with games, puzzles, word searches, and hope notes throughout finals season. Also, through TimelyCare, students receive a variety of on-demand resources to help you relax and unwind, ranging from meditation exercises to stress grounding tips.

You can find more details regarding Honor, SHW, Writing Center, and Library initiatives at honor.virginia.edu/finals.

Finally, I would like to offer a friendly reminder of our shared commitment to honor and integrity. It’s important to remember that our community relies upon our fair and honest work and the trust that others will do the same. Our collective academic integrity not only ensures that our grades are fairly earned, and our classes are meaningful, but also fosters a thriving environment on Grounds, where we can all feel included and welcome.

Remember that you are a part of this community that supports you and believes in you. Good luck!

All the best,

Laura Howard (she/her)
